Title:  Social Somatics

Awarness Practices for Social Movements

Description:

Six Facilitators from around the world come explore conflict as a critical source for innovation and regeneration that supports healthy growth in individuals, families, communities, nations and global networks. Come learn how to transcend the pattern of flight, fight, or freeze when conflicts intensify, and recognize conflict for what it really is – a source of wellness. Over an intensive 3-day institute you will learn how to: a) bring greater awareness to how you have embodied responding in conflict; b) learn how to make these disturbances useful through transformative facilitation techniques; and c) to integrate your new skills on real world issues.

Our approach to process work incorporates a modality developed by members of our team and presented at the 2010 United States Social Forum - on social somatics – a modality that helps accelerate social change, using personal and group somatic tracking embodiment exercises and praxis. Cultural preservation and cross-cultural bridging is our complex frame that will be used to practice deep democracy skills within. The primary objective is to facilitate conflict forums on cross-cultural issues most pressing to the Midwest.

Come experience conflict in a new way, as a resource for change, and as a reservoir of our deeper intelligence. Come experience how conflict, when appropriately engaged may foster community growth. Denial of conflict does not deepen relationship. Instead, such denial degenerates into somatic [body] symptoms in people. Come join us and be the change.
