ORGANIZING EFFORTS Afro-Eco Founded in 2004, it played a role in
organizing the first conference nationally on Black Environmental Thought and Practice. Presented at numerous conferences, including the 2007 United States Social Forum. Contributing a chapter,
with Dr. Rose Brewer, on Black Environmental Thought and Practice that
offers perspectives on movement building within the US and internationally. I am working with 3 other activists to prepare
an article for the Political Economy of World Systems Journal this year. AfroEco is fund raising for the Black Environmental Thought and Practice Conference to occur at the University of MN in September 20-23, 2012 - stay tuned for details! I am working with one
other consultant to get out a number of grants by the end of 2011 to support our work in 2012- including the first ever BET
Summer, which will be a Twin Cities version of Detroit Summer! We are developing a strategic
plan to help the Pan African community in the Twin Cities to be food secure by 2020.
Co-Motion Cooperative Founded in 2007 to work towards embodiment in social change through an emerging field of Social-Somatics.
Full Circle
Community Institute Co-founded in 1995, and currently co-lead an initiative to
promote both healing and organizing among cultural communities impacted by disparities in out of home placement in one county.
Parents are scripting cultural policy theater that helps the county understand how their practices of structural racism and cultural misunderstanding create the negative outcomes. We are doing
a strategic planning process for Full Circle in 2011 and designing strategies to support national and international work for
the organization in 2012.
Grassroots Public Policy Institute co-founded GPPI in
2003 to organize the black community around its policy agenda in the Twin Cities metropolitan region of Minnesota. This group
is now seeking national and international work.
